Canvs General Terms
Version 2026-10-21. Last updated 21 October 2026. Artists and studios also agree to the separate Artist and Studio Terms.
1. About these terms
- Canvs is run by Inkd Group Pty Ltd (ABN 86 768 265 615), trading as Canvs, at canvs.ink and app.canvs.ink ("Canvs", "we", "us").
- These General Terms apply to everyone who uses Canvs: people booking tattoos, artists, studios and referral promoters. By creating an account or making a booking, you agree to them.
- Artists and studios also agree to the Artist and Studio Terms. If the two conflict on a matter about artists or studios, the Artist and Studio Terms apply.
- Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information, including health information you give at booking. It forms part of these terms.
- Canvs is opening region by region. Until Canvs opens in a region, artists and studios there can set up but cannot be booked, and their pages are not public.
2. What Canvs does and who you deal with
- Canvs is a marketplace. It lets people find tattoo artists and studios, see open times, book, and pay a deposit and balance.
- Canvs does not perform tattoos. The artist or studio you book provides the tattoo and is responsible for it, including hygiene, licensing, consent forms, aftercare advice and the quality of the work. Your agreement for the tattoo itself is with them.
- The artist or studio is the seller. Every payment is a charge made on the artist's or studio's own Stripe account. They are the merchant of record. Canvs never holds your money.
- What Canvs does on their behalf. Using Stripe Connect, Canvs creates, authorises, captures and refunds those charges for the artist or studio, takes the Canvs fee from each charge, and pays referral earnings out of that fee.
- Card statements show CANVS together with the artist's or studio's name, for example "CANVS* KIER".
- Artists and studios set their own prices, deposits, hours and cancellation policies within the options Canvs offers.
- We do not check licences, qualifications or work before an artist goes live. Artists and studios confirm to us that they hold every licence and registration their state and local council require. We may ask for proof at any time and remove anyone who cannot give it.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to use Canvs. You must not book a tattoo for anyone under 18.
- Give accurate details and keep them up to date. Use your real name.
- We send a link to confirm your email address. Artists and studios must confirm theirs before they can be booked. People booking are never blocked by it. Signing up with Google counts as confirmed.
- Keep your log-in details secure. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- One person, one account. Do not book or list for someone else without their permission.
4. Booking and paying
- Price. The artist's price is based on the size, style and placement you choose. Canvs adds a fee of 10% of the artist's price, worked out to the cent. Prices on Canvs show the total including the fee. For example, a $35 artist price shows as $38.50. The Canvs fee is non-refundable once you have paid, except where the artist or studio cancels (section 5).
- Deposit. You pay a deposit when you book. The artist or studio sets it between 20% and 50% of the total, in whole dollars. Your booking is confirmed once the deposit is paid.
- Balance. The rest of the total is the balance. About 48 hours before your session, we authorise the balance on the card you booked with. It is charged when the artist marks the session complete, or when you tell us on Canvs that the session went ahead. If the price changed on the day, the artist enters what they charged, which can be lower than the booked balance but never higher. If the authorisation fails, we ask you to update your card. The artist may cancel under their policy if the balance cannot be secured.
- How the fee is taken. The Canvs fee is split across the deposit and the balance in proportion to each charge. The two parts add up exactly to the fee on the booking.
- Changes. The final price can change if you and the artist both agree to change the design or session length before the work starts.
- GST. Inkd Group Pty Ltd is not registered for GST. The Canvs fee includes no GST and we do not issue tax invoices for it. We will update these terms if we register. Whether the artist's price includes GST depends on the artist or studio, who is responsible for their own tax invoices.
- Stripe. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe, not to Canvs or the artist.
- If nobody confirms the session. After your session we ask you whether it went ahead. If neither you nor the artist confirms it, Canvs tells you at least 24 hours in advance, then charges the booked balance before the authorisation on your card ends. If you report a problem before then, Canvs will not charge the balance on its own; the artist can still mark the session complete.
- If the authorisation has ended. If the artist marks the session complete after the authorisation on your card has ended, we send you a link to pay the balance. Nothing is taken until you approve it.
- Consult. Your booking starts with a 30-minute consult before the tattoo when your session is less than 72 hours after you book, and when it is 72 hours or more away and you did not send a brief. The consult is not charged. Your booked time starts with the consult and the tattoo follows it.
- Keep contact on Canvs. Your brief, and anything else you write to an artist or studio on Canvs, must not include a phone number, email address, link or social media handle, or ask them to contact you somewhere else. Canvs will not accept a brief that does.
5. Cancellations, refunds and problems
Each artist or studio picks a cancellation policy from the options Canvs offers. It is shown before you pay and in your confirmation. What you get back depends on who cancels and when.
| Who cancels | When | What you get back |
|---|---|---|
| You | Inside the artist's free cancellation window | Your deposit, less the Canvs fee on that charge |
| You | Outside the window, or you do not turn up | What the artist's policy allows, less the Canvs fee on that charge |
| The artist or studio | Any time | Your whole deposit, Canvs fee included. The artist or studio covers the fee |
- Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Your bank may take several business days to show them.
- If an artist's or studio's Stripe account is closed or restricted while you have a booking with them, we will tell you and help you get your deposit back.
- Problems with a booking. Start by raising them with the artist or studio. You can also report a problem from your booking page, choosing a reason from a list. If that does not fix it, contact us (section 10) and we will try to help.
- Missed sessions. If you do not turn up, the artist can mark the session as missed. Your deposit follows the artist's cancellation policy, the balance is never charged, and any hold on your card for it is released. If you did attend, report a problem from your booking page.
- Once your session has started, it can no longer be cancelled on Canvs.
- Chargebacks. If you dispute a charge with your bank, the artist or studio answers it as the merchant of record. Please talk to them or us before you do.
- Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (section 10).
6. Consent and health information
- Before you pay, the booking form asks you to confirm consent statements and may ask about your health, for example allergies, skin conditions or medication.
- Health information is sensitive information under the Privacy Act. We collect it with your express consent, which you give by ticking the box on the booking form. You can book without answering optional questions.
- We share it with the artist or studio you book, so they can decide whether the tattoo is safe for you. We keep it as the privacy policy explains, and you can ask to see or correct it.
- Answer honestly. The artist may refuse or stop a tattoo if it is not safe, under their policy.
- Photos of your tattoo. The booking form asks whether your artist may photograph the finished piece for their portfolio. It is optional and you can change your mind by telling the artist.
7. Reviews, content and conduct
- Reviews come from people who booked and attended a session through Canvs, and from no one else. They must be honest and about that session. Reviews show your given name and the initial of your surname. We do not edit reviews or remove them for being negative. We may remove reviews that break these terms.
- Your content (profile text, photos, portfolio images) stays yours. You give Canvs a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, resize and share it on Canvs and in Canvs marketing while your account is open. Marketing already published when you close your account may stay up, but we will not make new marketing with your content.
- You must own, or have permission to use, everything you upload, and have the consent of anyone shown in it.
- You must not:
- give false information or impersonate anyone
- use Canvs to find an artist or a person booking and then move that booking off Canvs to avoid the fee
- harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone
- post fake reviews, or offer anything in exchange for a review
- copy, scrape or interfere with Canvs, or try to get into accounts that are not yours
- use Canvs for anything unlawful
- Suspension. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where it is fair and safe to do so, we tell you why before acting and give you a chance to respond. You can ask us to review a suspension by emailing us within 14 days, and we will reply within 14 days.
8. Referrals
- Anyone with a Canvs referral link can refer people to Canvs: artists, studios, and promoters who sign up at /refer. Artist and studio referrals also follow the Artist and Studio Terms.
- Referral earnings are 10% of the Canvs platform fee on qualifying bookings made through your link. They come out of the Canvs fee and never change what the person booking pays or what the artist is paid.
- Earnings stay held until you set up payouts with Stripe from your referral dashboard. Held earnings are paid once payouts are set up.
- Payouts run monthly. Any month under $20 carries forward to the next month.
- You can't earn from referring yourself. Canvs checks this, including by matching payout bank accounts. A self-referral, or a booking later reversed by a chargeback, cancels the earnings on it.
- Canvs may refuse a referral name that could mislead people, such as one that uses an artist's, studio's or Canvs's own name.
- Anyone who recommends Canvs while earning from referrals must say so, for example "I earn a referral reward from Canvs", wherever they post the recommendation.
- Referral terms version 2026-10-18. Canvs will give notice before these referral terms change.
9. Privacy, closing your account and what we keep
- Our privacy policy explains what we collect, why, where it is stored (some of it overseas), how long we keep it, and how to see or correct it. It also covers the analytics cookies we use (Google Analytics) and how to opt out.
- Closing your account. You can delete your account yourself in your settings, at any time and without a fee. Before it goes ahead, Canvs asks you to finish anything still open, such as an upcoming booking, money held on a card, a refund in progress, or an unpaid referral payout.
- What we keep. When you delete your account we remove your log-in, profile, notes, photos linked to your account and preferences. We keep booking, payment, refund, referral and consent records for 7 years because the law requires it, with your name and email removed.
- Image files you uploaded are removed from your profile straight away. We delete the stored files on request.
10. Consumer law, liability and legal terms
- Your consumer rights. Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes them.
- The tattoo is the artist's service. To the extent the law allows, Canvs is not liable for the tattoo work, its outcome, any injury or reaction, or anything an artist or studio does or fails to do.
- Our limit. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is capped at the Canvs fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. This does not apply where the law does not allow it, or where the loss is caused by our fraud, negligence or breach.
- Canvs is provided as it is. We work to keep it available and accurate, but cannot promise it will never be interrupted or have errors.
- Changes to these terms. We give at least 14 days' notice of material changes by email and in the app. If you do not agree, you can close your account before the change takes effect, without any fee or penalty. Using Canvs after that date means you accept the change.
- Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales. You and we submit to the courts of New South Wales. This does not stop you taking a claim to a consumer tribunal in your own state or territory.
- Complaints and contact. Inkd Group Pty Ltd, trading as Canvs. Email dev@canvs.ink. We reply to complaints within 2 business days and aim to resolve them within 14 days.
